Our Program

Feed a Hungry Child Program

The Program is a project of Golden Harvest Food Bank and Feeding America.  It is a simple, effective answer to the problem of child hunger after children return home from school for the weekend. Free and reduced breakfasts and lunches are only available during the week, so our program provides needy children with meals to take home on Fridays. This nutritious package, weighing approximately three pounds, contains dry cereal, shelf-stable milk, pop-top mini-meals like Beef and Franks, Macaroni-O’s, applesauce or canned fruit, and juice boxes.

92.3% of your donations in 2014 went to feed the children of Pickens County, SC.  Thanks to everyone for the continued support.  Also, in 2015 we will start feeding the children of Grade 6 – Grade 8 while continuing to feed the children of K5 – Grade 5.

How Does It Work?

Golden Harvest Food Bank provides the Packs and transports them to their local warehouse where volunteers pick it up and deliver once a month to all our schools in Pickens County. On the last day of the school week, the Packs are discreetly placed in the back packs of students enrolled in the program by site staff or volunteers.

How Can I Help?

Donations to the Program are an important source of funding, along with program grants. Each Pack costs $6 — the cost of sponsoring a child’s Pack for a 36-week school term is only $216.
